Don proudly served eight years in the U.S. Army. He set two national drag racing records with cars he built himself in 1958 and 1960. In 1961, he opened Speed Specialists of Austin. He started Cen-Tex Ditching Service in 1971 and in 1978 retired and moved to Rockport, TX, where he enjoyed fishing and shrimping in his La Voyageur boat that he designed and built. In 2012, he moved to Victoria, with Delores. They joined the Golden Crescent Car Club traveling in his 1982 Zimmer Golden Spirit Coupe and joined the Ramblin Rose Travel Club traveling in his Road Trek RV. We will miss his witty personality and ability to make everyone laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delores Fritz Govro. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ruby Govro.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 12 to 2 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, TX, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, with Brother Jack Bourland and Pastor John Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
