Pastor Jeffrey A. Scott, age 57 of Warren, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. He was born on April 19, 1956 in Grosse Pointe, son of Joan Ann (nee: Hankey) and the late Hoover Arlon Scott.Jeff was an only child. Following his parents' brief marriage, it was just Joan & Jeff for 12 years. Soon afterwards, Joan met and married a wonderful man, Joe Edmonds, and the "J's" would become prominent within the family unit. As Joan used to reflect, it was Jesus, Joan, Joe, Jeff,…and Johnny, their little dog that Jeff adored.Jeff accepted Christ at a young age. As a young child, the stage was already being set for his call to the ministry. For a congregation, he would sit all his stuffed animals on the porch, then proceed to preach a salvation message to them. With a Bible in one hand and a toy gun in the other, his sermon would be followed by him shooting all the animals,…just to make sure they got to Heaven. As he ventured through his teen years, the challenges to his faith took their course. It was during this time that he met a young woman with whom he had his first son, Jason Richard Scott. Then on August 18, 1980, he met the love of his life, Lorraine Laura Weier. It was shortly thereafter that he rededicated his life to Jesus and life began reflecting the goodness of God's touch in Jeff's heart. It was on April 17, 1982 that Jeff and Lorraine would promise themselves to each other in marriage,…and together with Jason, their new little family became one.On March 3, 1984, Jeff's life would be blessed again through the gift of his daughter, Rachel Michelle Scott. Then sadly, on August 1, 1988, tragedy struck as his little boy, Jason, died unexpectedly at the young age of 9. After seven years of testing, healing and growing, Jeff's family unit welcomed David Ralph Scott into the fray on May 7, 1991. Then, in 1993, God brought another young lad into the mix by the name of Roger Dale Smith,…a boy that would steal Jeff's heart and quickly become part of the family. In the year 2000, the Lord opened up the door of ministry to Jeff and entrusted him with a community church in Warren named New Beginnings Christian Ministries, a non-denominational church that reaches out to the lost. Along the way, Jeff donned a personal motto; "save the lost at any cost." It was through the ministry that he and Lorraine came to meet a special young lady named Janice Alexiou with whom they became especially close,…and would eventually count as one of the family. As Jeff grew in his walk with God and his ministry at church, some of the precious mentors who were an integral part of that process were Pastor's Ralph Hart, James Holder, Sam Luke, Welton Lane, Harold Hergenreder, and Ron Dailey.Jeff's life has blessed so many people, and he truly loved them with his whole heart. He was always willing to go the extra mile to be an encouragement and blessing,…he will be greatly missed.Jeff was the beloved husband of Lorraine, and dearest son of Joan Edmonds and the late Hoover Scott. Loving father of Rachel Scott, David Scott, Roger Smith, Janice Alexiou, and the late Jason Scott. Visitation for Jeff will be held on Tuesday, December 10th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. His Funeral Service will be conducted at 10am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Pastor Welton Lane. Interment will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township, Michigan. Memorial donations are welcomed to the family. Please share memories of Jeff at his memory book.
