Richard C. Chynoweth, age 67 of Macomb Township, died Monday, May 3, 2010 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. He was born December 1, 1942 in Detroit, the son of the late Joseph, and the late Estelle (nee: Caloni) Chynoweth. For many years, Richard was employed as a city government official and worked as an Inspector-Surveyor, until his retirement from that field in 1987. The next chapter in his life enveloped an entirely different jump in the career pool when he became the owner and proprietor of the "Dairy Freezzz" at 10 Mile & Van Dyke in Warren. For over 9 years, Richard worked hard in his role as a small businessman in bringing the special joy & goodness that accompanied each creamy treat that crossed his counter. He truly enjoyed the smiles on all the faces of those who came by for a dip, or two. In 1996, he passed the business down to his son, Rick. When it came to matters aside from his official jobs, Richard was noted for being a "Mr. Fix-It" kinda guy. He was quite the handyman when something needed repairing, and could tinker with the best of them. When Richard wasn't working, one of his favorite getaways was camping at Lake Chemung in Brighton. He found great enjoyment through the friendships and comaraderie that he shared in that setting, and especially loved every opportunity he got to ride around in his infamous blue golf cart. He also loved watching sports, especially basketball. Some of the most fun & sporty memories made were those he enjoyed at the festive Piston Parties! When it came to his gaming pleasures, "Texas Hold 'Em" had a hold of him, for sure. He loved the thrill and challenge that came with this unique brand of card playing. And lastly, Richard loved to eat. Food was his friend and, together, they shared a gratifying relationship. But of all his passions in life, none could hold a candle to the precious & cherished memories and moments made in the company of family, friends, and his immensely treasured grandchildren. To those whose lives were touched by his, he leaves a legacy of love that will forever be remembered and held close. He was the beloved husband of Mary. Dear father of Rick (Melina), Scott (Jody), and Niki (Jerry) Boettcher. Loving grandfather of six. Brother of James and Linda. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6th from 10am to 12 pm, with a 12pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Memorial donations are welcomed to the American Diabetes Association, 30200 Telegraph Rd., Suite 105, Bingham Farms, MI 48025. Please share memories of Richard at his guest book.
