Rosalinde Gitlitz

April 27, 1925 - January 9, 2021

Peacefully at home on Saturday, January 9, 2021 in Jupiter, FL, with her daughter Dena by her

side, Rosalinde, at 95 years of age, joined Alvin, her childhood sweetheart and beloved husband

of 66 years.

Born on April 27, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY, to Lillian and Samuel Solomon, Rosalinde’s family

moved to New Rochelle, NY, when she was two years old. She was raised with her older sister

and many cousins during the Depression. She knew at the age of five that she wanted to be a

nurse and began saving to make her dream come true. Rosalinde graduated from White Plains

Hospital and chose pediatric nursing as her vehicle for spreading the love, joy and compassion

that she was known for. She interned in Miami during WWII and maintained close friendships

with her classmates throughout her life.

In 1947 she married the boy next door and the love of her life. Together, they raised four

children, welcomed four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, giving three generations

the opportunity to experience her kindness, gentleness, patience and forgiveness up close and in

action daily.

Rosalinde possessed a magical combination of warmth, wisdom and humor, creating instant

connections wherever she went. Her welcoming smile and kind, receptive eyes imparted a sense

of peace and pure acceptance. She had an extraordinary capacity for both understanding people

and finding humor in every circumstance. She was the embodiment of what it means to show up

and care for another human being. Rosalinde delighted in celebrating people and her home was

the center for family gatherings, Jewish holidays and parties she loved to throw for her friends.

It also served as a haven for rescued pets and plants. To know her was to truly be seen and heard

and fed.

A passionate and inspired nurse for over fifty years, Rosalinde was dedicated to improving the

quality of life for children. When Connor’s Nursery opened its doors as the first children’s AIDS

shelter in Florida, she came out of retirement to work as a pediatric AIDS nurse and brought

along her family and friends as volunteers to care for the newborn babies.

She will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, especially by her children Susan, Larry

(Robin), Vita Rachel (Misag) and Dena; her cherished grandchildren, Noah, Sam, Emilie, Ayla

and her great-grandchildren, Knox, Madeline, Loux, Will and Jack, who affectionately called her

“Super G”.

To be in her loving presence was to be in direct contact with the full potential of the human heart.
