

Donald Walter Dietel, 87, of Westwood, NJ, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019. He was born in Teaneck, NJ to Walter and Lydia Dietel. Beloved husband of years Nancy Dietel for 61 years. Devoted father of Kenneth, Bruce and his wife Patty, and Chris. Loving grandfather of Eric, Kelliann and her husband Bill, Matthew and his wife Kate, and Thomas. He is predeceased by his sister Audrey. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Thursday, September 26 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. Don was a graduate of Rutgers University, Class of 1956, where he met Nancy. He began his teaching career in the 5th and 6th grades at Stoney Brook Elementary Junior High School and ultimately at Paramus High School where he was the Earth and Science Teacher. He was the Junior High Soccer Coach and High School Soccer Referee.
His College education was interrupted from 1953-1956, while he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, GA, achieving the rank of Corporal.
He played soccer for many years with the German-American Sportsfriends Soccer Club.
He was a lifetime member of American Philatelic Society and past president of the Pascack Stamp Club. Don was an avid hiker and loved the outdoors. He loved tending to his garden, growing vegetables, flowers and raspberries.
