Vera was a very special longtime Christian friend with whom I enjoyed volunteering at Lutheran Hospital for many years.   We enjoyed exchanging frequent notes and phone calls after the Blue House closed.

Mom, 98 years, WOW!  Always loving, always caring.  Such a strong person yet so tender and vulnerable.
Her life spanned so many events.  She was born on July 28th 1914, the same day WWI started. She survived so many world events, The Roaring 20's, the Great Depression, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc..  She married Dad during the depression and raised three children during WWI and Korea.  She did whatever  was required of a Mother, Wife, Daughter and Friend.  Never wavering from helping others and providing the best for her family.  She learned to drive in the early 1950's and began a career to better provide for those she loved.  Mom and Dad purchased a house in North Denver in the late 1940's.  She lived in the house all but the last few months of her life.  Dad Passed 26 years ago and she lived alone from then on, never complaining of loneliness.  Thoughts of her family and how she could make their lives better, dominated  her existence.

David R. Fowler. To me she was the grandma I never had. Giving, thoughtful, had a great Thanksgiving at her house, like on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post, kindness, thoughtful of others and putting others before herself. She always had candy out for those who had a sweet tooth. I would sit next to the candy dish on the couch and by the time we left, it was 1/2 gone. Right up to the end she was always thinking of others. She sent out a card, with her shakey handwriting, but readable saying, I'm sorry please forgive me. It was for the smallest of things, but she felt the need to send a card and ask for forgiveness. I'll always remember one of the last pictures I took of her at the nursing home. It was her 98th birthday and she was all smiles. She had balloons on her chair and Karin and Kristi were taking her down to the dining hall and she had the bigest smile on her face! That will be my lasting memory of Vera Buchko.  Lord, we have lost a soul and you have gained a loving person at your table. Amen!
