History

In May 1910, Hugh M. and Mary Moore opened Moore Funeral Home in downtown Arlington at the corner of Main & Mesquite Streets. It was located in the back of E.E. Smith Furniture and House Furnishings. Their 3 sons—Harry, Howard “Gumpy” and Robert “Bob”—joined their father as the funeral home business grew to accommodate a growing population.

Cemetery and memorial garden

In the 1930’s, Hugh established Parkdale Cemetery on Mary Street; it adjoins Arlington Cemetery. In the mid-1950’s, Moore Funeral Home acquired White Chapel Memorial Gardens in far North Arlington. It was renamed Moore Memorial Gardens and the Moore brothers built a funeral home on its grounds. They opened Moore Funeral Home on North Davis Drive in 1963.

A funeral home for Tarrant County

As the population of Arlington and Tarrant County continued to expand, so did Moore Funeral Home. The brothers opened a second Arlington-area location to serve the needs of the southeast Tarrant County, including Mansfield and Kennedale. Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home opened in September of 1996 at the corner of Bowen Road and Pleasant Ridge, near I-20.
