History

Stoddard Funeral & Cremation, located in Greeley, Colorado, was founded in 1978 by Paul and Virginia Stoddard. Originally on the western side of Greeley, the funeral home has maintained its original location, now situated in the central part of Greeley. Paul and Virginia began with a commitment to a high standard of service. Throughout our history, we continue to lead and innovate while maintaining those high standards of service.

Sunset Memorial Gardens

Sunset Memorial Gardens on West 28th Street has served Greeley area families since its founding in 1952. Since then, our commitment to the community has always been our top priority. Our beautifully landscaped cemetery occupies approximately 26 acres, allows for flush-to-the-ground monuments and includes a variety of gardens, plus a veterans garden, Catholic garden and cremation garden. Private estates are also available.

Cemetery history

Founded by W.D. and Deloss Dhority on farmland west of Greeley, Sunset Memorial Gardens has grown along with the surrounding community. Originating with the Garden of the Christus and the Garden of Devotion, the cemetery now includes a veterans garden, Catholic garden and cremation garden. 

In 1987, Sunset Memorial Gardens became a member of the Dignity Memorial^® network, and in 1995, became a sister location of Stoddard Funeral & Cremation. Together, Stoddard Funeral & Cremation & Sunset Memorial Gardens allow you to take care of all your funeral and burial arrangements.

We honor veterans

Stoddard Funeral & Cremation & Sunset Memorial Gardens understands the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level One Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

Community involvement

Team members at Stoddard Funeral & Cremation & Sunset Memorial Gardens remain actively involved in the Greeley community by hosting and attending events throughout the year. At our annual Easter Luminaries, held on Saturday before Easter, our team and community volunteers visit the cemetery to place and light more than 10,000 luminaries in remembrance.

On Memorial Day, we invite members of our community to participate in our Memorial Day program the Sunday before Memorial Day. We feature an Avenue of Flags where donated veterans flags are raised and flown throughout the park.

In addition, we participate in annual Your Life Your Legacy Seminars. We also sponsor the Greeley Independence Stampede, Judd Fulton Golf Tournament, Taste of Weld County-Lutheran Family Services Event, Evans Chamber of Commerce Partner of the Year, Wreaths Across America and Northern Colorado Medical Center Turkey Trot.
