Our funeral home and services

Chapel at Crawford-Bowers Funeral HomeCrawford-Bowers Funeral Home offers families exceptional service, a comforting environment and a highly professional and caring staff. The funeral home was reconfigured and updated inside and out in 2018. Today it is the most inviting and modern in the Killeen area.

A large funeral chapel holds up to 250 guests. A hospitality room—for a friends-and-family gathering before or after a service—seats up to 40. Two large staterooms accommodate visitations.

Whether you'd like to arrange for a traditional funeral service or are interested in a contemporary celebration of life, plan to have a large gathering or a more intimate service, our compassionate team works with you to ensure all of your family's needs and wishes are met. From a catered barbecue lunch to an afternoon ice cream social, from a funeral with full military honors to a cremation ceremony with a lively toast, we arrange personalized and memorable memorials.

Planning in advance

Arrangement room at Crawford-Bowers Funeral HomeAt Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, we recognize that funeral arrangements and associated expenses can be overwhelming. In addition to assisting during an immediate time of need, our funeral directors specialize in working with families to plan ahead. By preparing in advance, you provide a sense of relief, peace of mind and comfort for your loved ones while ensuring your wishes are met and your budget is kept. We are here to discuss these options should you wish to do so.

Cremation services

We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.

More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:

  • a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
  • a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
  • a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.

For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

There are many options for cremation—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:

  • Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
  • Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial® providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
  • Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

History

Crawford-Bowers Funeral HomeCrawford-Bowers Funeral Home was founded by Bill Crawford and Delbert Bowers in 1972. Both retired from the U.S. military, they felt a need for a strong military-related funeral home in the community. Bill was CSM of the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood. Delbert was a warrant officer in charge of the Officers Club.

The relationships they built during their time in the military provided a great advantage to continue to serve people through funeral service. They built upon those relationships by being active in the community and building strong relationships with people of all walks of life. Both Bill and Delbert felt it was an honor to serve families by providing the professional support they needed in their time of loss. This commitment is ever-present today in the continued operations of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.

Delbert Bowers, community leader

Besides being a successful business leader, Delbert was also very dedicated to many civic organizations. He was a life member of VFW Post 3892 in Harker Heights, DAV Post 147 in Killeen and American Legion Post 223 in Killeen. He was involved in the Killeen Evening Lions Club, Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce and Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge of Falls City, Nebraska, for more than 65 years. Delbert died in December 2016 at the age 87.
