History

LaMonica Memorial Home was established by R. Samuel and Josephine Z. LaMonica on November 29, 1959 in Bloomfield, New Jersey. The LaMonicas offered a sense of trust and comfort to all families they served throughout the years. In 1984, their daughter, Josette, joined the funeral home operation.

The LaMonica family built a reputation of service and generosity within the Bloomfield community. R. Samuel and Josephine were active members of numerous social and civic organizations and received countless awards for their efforts and dedication. Their never-ending generosity made them pillars of the community. Together, they built a legacy of comfort and friendship to all who came to know them.

Growing with the Community

Over the years, the LaMonica family saw a need to grow their facility and enlarged the funeral home to accommodate more families efficiently. Additional parking was added, as well. While thriving as a family-owned business, the LaMonicas felt the community would benefit from joining the largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. In 1997, LaMonica Memorial Home became a member of the Dignity Memorial network. In 1997, the passing of R. Samuel LaMonica was a loss for the entire community. His legacy remains with his family, and the team at LaMonica Memorial Home continues to provide the level of service that has become synonymous with the LaMonica family’s heritage.

In 2005, LaMonica Memorial Home opened an additional location in Livingston to better serve the large population that moved from the Bloomfield community. Later that same year, the businesses were consolidated into 1 and the Bloomfield location was closed. The Livingston location shares facilities with the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, but operates as a separate entity.

An enduring legacy

As the manager of the funeral home, Josette continued to provide the compassionate service her family instilled in her with the help of her mother, Jo, who had remained a driving force behind the reputation of the LaMonica Memorial Home until her passing in 2011.
