History

Hetherington & Deans Funeral ChapelThe rich tradition of Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel started in 1925 when Blake F. Hetherington opened the doors of his funeral chapel on Victoria Avenue, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. During the early 1930s, Hetherington & Deans made its final move to 5176 Victoria Ave., where it remains today.

Hetherington & Deans has long claimed to have the oldest formal funeral chapel in Niagara Falls, complete with fixed pews. The chapel is home to a pipe organ which, during the funeral home’s “down times,” was made available for organ recitals and chorales through the 1940s.

After World War II, local resident A. John "Jack" Deans returned from his overseas service and joined Mr. Hetherington as a partner in the business. He remained a committed proprietor and funeral director until poor health prevented him from continuing. Mr. Deans retired in 1996.

Continued service

At Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, we are proud of the reputation we have earned in our 90+ years in the Niagara Falls community. Today, we are proud to be part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers since 1994.
