Carter is a sixth-generation funeral director. Her great-great-great grandfather opened J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Petersburg, Virginia, in 1865. However, before becoming a funeral director, Carter graduated from The Culinary Institute of America. She traveled and cooked in professional kitchens from the U.S. Virgin Islands to France, New Orleans to Manhattan. In 2002, she changed careers, joining the family business at Woodlawn after earning her funeral service license at Norfolk State University.
Carter was born and raised in Danville. When she’s not working, Carter loves spending time at the beach with her daughter.
