About

John Birmingham, founder of Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town, Maine, started with a simple philosophy in 1982: Treat each family with care, compassion and dignity. Today, this mission still guides us as we create personalized memorial tributes for those who mean so much to our community.

Let's start with a story

We begin by listening to you. Inspire us with stories from life such as a treasured collection curated over decades, dedication to a career that was more of a calling or the style of music that could always be heard wafting through the kitchen. We weave these elements into a personalized tribute. Imagine one last rousing game of bingo for the person who brought joy to the local hall, week after week. Envision a baseball-themed sendoff for the world’s biggest fan, including miniature monogrammed bats for guests to keep after the service. Whatever your wish, we will do our professional best to fulfill almost any request.

Trust us to handle the details, beyond flowers and music. Professional catering, featuring a variety of delicious dishes from the caterer's collection or your own family recipes, frees you to focus on family and friends when they matter most. Host a large reunion of friends before the service or an intimate gathering of immediate family afterward—our spacious reception areas adapt to meet your needs.

History

John Birmingham founded Kiley-Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town, Maine, in 1982. Initially, Mr. Birmingham rented a house on South Main Street to be used as the funeral home, but in 1985, land was purchased and our funeral home was built at its current location on Main Street. In 1988, an addition doubled the size of the building. The funeral home's name was shortened 10 years later. Our locally-based team at Birmingham Funeral Home takes pride in being active in the community, working each day to make our town a better place to live.

Ratings & Reviews

Verified Customer Reviews

Since 2005, many of our customers have taken the time to tell us how we did each year via our Voice of the Customer program. Our star ratings and comments from families come directly from these surveys.

"The professionalism, kindness and understanding provided were greatly appreciated during a difficult time. Every effort was made regarding special requests. Losing a person you love is hard and having a caring and kind person such as Mike Regan (and staff) handle the technical and necessary arrangements was a blessing. I feel that my mom would have felt honored and cherished and for that I am eternally grateful."

"Mike was very professional, yet down to earth. I placed several calls over 3-4 days, with what were probably simple questions but for me I had no idea what I was doing. This was the first time I have had to make arrangements and Mike made it all go super smoothly. I will definitely tell others of this great experience!"
