History

A family tradition

T.G. McCarthy Funeral HomeT.G. McCarthy Funeral Home was founded in 1887 by Timothy George McCarthy, who served as Pueblo’s 1st mayor and county sheriff. Our funeral home was the 1st licensed funeral home in the state of Colorado and was originally located at 110-112 N. Main Street. T.G. McCarthy was also one of the founding members of the Colorado Funeral Directors Association. McCarthy had 3 sons, including Henry and Raymond, who continued the family tradition of operating the funeral home until 1956. Raymond then purchased his brother’s business interest and built the new mortuary at 329 Goodnight Ave. Raymond’s son, Timothy G. McCarthy II, took ownership of the business in 1960.
