History

Powell Ott and Victor Laughlin founded Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in 1933, creating a funeral home in Winter Haven to serve local Florida families. They conducted their first funeral on August 5 that year. The duo served families at the funeral home together until Mr. Ott was called to duty in World War II. Mr. Laughlin retired in the early 1950s, while Mr. Ott served families at the funeral home until 6 weeks before he passed away in 1998.

Although his name was never on the door, Edmond Viertel was a faithful colleague. He started working for the funeral home in 1935 and worked up until his death in 1995. Eddie G. Allen first met Mr. Ott in the early 1980s, crediting him as the reason he joined the funeral profession today. Over the years, Eddie witnessed Mr. Ott’s compassion and tireless patience with families in their time of loss. He was a true southern gentleman and a unique mentor to Eddie.

It is with great honor and respect that we carry on this legacy to the families we serve. Today, we specialize in providing tailored memorial services that truly reflect the life and times of our clients.
