Doris “Bobbie” Appell, 81, of Shepard St. Old Saybrook passed away Sunday November 15, 2009 at Saybrook Health Care after a long illness. Beloved wife of Wallace M. Appell of Old Saybrook, she was born on April 12, 1928 to the late John and Grace Daniels.Bobbie has lived in Old Saybrook for 56 years, retiring from Caldor’s Dept Store after more than 20 years. She also worked for Gary’s Bakery part time. Most of all, she was a great mother, raising her three children. She also loved gardening and tending to her flowers, Bobbie will be sadly missed.Besides her husband of 54 years, she is survived by three children; Philip M. Appell Sr. and his wife Maria of Middletown, Nancy Strempil and her husband Mark of Deep River, and Timothy Appell and his wife Jeanine of Idaho, step daughter Anne Lynn Garavel of Derby and by her sister Irene Hill of Old Lyme. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The Appell family would like to thank Saybrook Health Care for their compassion and excellent care for their mother.Family and friends may visit the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd. Old Saybrook on Friday November 20, from 6 to 8pm. Church services will be Saturday 3pm at the First Church of Christ Congregational of Old Saybrook. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
