If anyone ever cared, really cared for someone else it would have to be Minnie Evelyn Singleton. She was a warm hearted and well liked individual, and these wonderful traits came easily to her because she was such a sociable and amiable person, someone who was always making certain that those around her had whatever they needed. Minnie was a talkative person who was tactful at all times but typically said what she meant. She was the daughter of Thomas and Clara (Short) Williford. During her childhood she learned to be reliable and respectful. Minnie was an obedient child who was well liked by others. She found it easy to show sympathy and to perform kind acts for others. These admirable qualities would become a part of Minnie's personality and daily life. Minnie was the one to initiate family gatherings and celebrations. Minnie was a peace-maker with an ability to resolve all sorts of conflicts. Minnie was raised with one sister, Marie. Minnie and Marie had the typical childhood most children experienced in the Depression Era. Minnie was a faithful and loving person. Some would even call her sentimental and a romantic at heart. Her kindness and consideration radiated an aura of warmth to those around her. Minnie cared for what others thought and carried that into her marriage. She married Leonard Singleton, the love of her life on April 8, 1940. Hard work and love made her new life with Leonard a happy one for 49 years. Harmony was important to Minnie and she made every effort to maintain it with family and friends. Minnie was blessed with two children, one son, Marvin Lee, and one daughter, Shirley Lucille. They were also blessed with six grandchildren, Marty Singleton, Randy Singleton, Mike Singleton, Jeff Singleton, Ricky Black, and Terry Black; eight great-grandchildren, Travis Singleton, Brandy Singleton, Cody Singleton, January Singleton, Beth Black, Thomas Black, Joseph Black and Ellen Black; and two great-great-grandchildren, Victoria Singleton and Alyssa May Singleton. Minnie was always conscious of the feelings and needs of her family. The secret of her success in this area was simple: Minnie would listen then she would act accordingly. Her high moral standards and traditional values served Minnie well with her faith. She was a life-long member ofSlate Hill Baptist Church. She was well respected because she was such supportive individual who sought to help in any manner she could. She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Services were held at Slate Hill Baptist Church. Minnie was laid to rest in Hamblen Memory Gardens. Minnie was a fantastic conversationalist who could engage just about anyone in a discussion. And whenever she said something, she meant it. Minnie was a down to earth person, outgoing and gregarious. She was without question the type of person who enjoyed experiencing things first hand. She was practical and sensible, but what friends and family will remember her for most is the fact that she was so understanding and kind. Everyone whose life she touched will miss Minnie Evelyn Singleton.
