
Born August 25, 1921, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Orlando and Violet (Hoffman) Heffner.
She was a graduate of Altoona High School, class of 1939 and a graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. Betty entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII as a 2nd Lieutenant. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Mechanicsburg; and a life member of the Auxiliary to "Thornwold;" the U.C.C. Homes; and Hoffman Home for Children.
She was a secretary of the former Mechanicsburg Area Roundtable of Christians and Jews. Betty was a volunteer at the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Harrisburg for many years and was on the Advisory Board of the New Hope Ministries at its inception. She also volunteered at Health South Rehab Hospital in Mechanicsburg and the Arthritis Foundation of Camp Hill. An an R.N., she worked at D.W. Seidle Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsburg for 22 years from 1955 to 1977 and she did some private duty nursing at Harrisburg and Polyclinic Hospitals.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Adrienne H. (Myers) Wooldridge, Alexis J. Claar and husband Richard, and Allyson G. Colestock and husband James B.; grandchildren, Whitney E. (Myers) Jackson, D. Georgette Myers, George E. Myers IV, Alexandra J. (Claar) Castillo, E. Alyssa Claar and Tristan E. Colestock; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas A. Jackson, Brooke A. Jackson, Benjamin D. Castillo, Brendan C. Castillo and Aaron M. Castillo.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be private at the family's convenience.
