Josephine Mohr Bright, 96, of Abilene passed away peacefully on June 12, 2021. Memorial Services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at First Central Presbyterian Church 400 Orange St, Abilene, TX 79601 with Pastor Cliff Stewart officiating. Burial will preceded service at 10:00 AM on Thursday at Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors for a visitation on Wednesday, June 16 from 6-8pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Hwy. 277 S. in Abilene.

Josephine was born on September 21, 1924 to the late Louis O. and Cora (Johnson) Mohr in Bellevue, Louisiana Bossier Parish. She moved to Abilene with her family in 1935. She graduated from Abilene High School and went on to attend Gail Business College. She married the love of her life Ross V. Bright on January 25, 1946 in Abilene together they moved to Houston in 1947. Josephine and Ross welcomed their only child Louis, and she relished in being a devoted wife, mother, and outstanding homemaker. Josephine had been an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She was a Volunteer with the Medical Care Mission and the museums of Abilene. After Ross retired they settled back in Abilene. She became an active member of First Central Presbyterian Church, a church her family had been associated with since the 1930’s. Josephine loved people had a genuine concern for others, and always wanted people to feel loved. Wherever Josephine was, there was warmth, friendship, laughter and joy. Those traits could be seen in action in any church she was a member of, she always volunteered to serve as a greeter. She was a vivacious reader always keeping her mind active. Being the oldest child Josephine was naturally a, “Leader” any task she was responsible for was sure to be completed and completed in, “her way”. She enjoyed a special relationship with all of her siblings, she and her sisters where a unique trio. She lived the later part of her life at University Place where she made many special friends and enjoyed sharing in community life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Margaret Jones, Charles Mohr, Dr. Henry Mohr, and Louise Mohr.

She is survived by her devoted son, Louis R. Bright and his wife Helen of Granite Shoals, TX; grandson, Christopher Bright; great-grandson, Dylan Louis Bright; step-grandchild, Jason Lands; and step-great-grandchildren, Caden and Christian Lands; a host of loving nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene or Presbyterian Children’s Homes

Knew her from 2001 -2005 while we were stationed in Abilene. She has to be one of the nicest & sweetest people I have ever met.
