Richard “Dick” Wood age 83 of Albion passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014. He was born November 7, 1930 in Jackson, Michigan the son of George and Francis (Counter) Wood. He married Shirley Guilford on May 30, 1959 in Jackson and she survives. Dick worked for 20 years at REA (Railway Express Agency), then 17 years at Albion Camera and Studio and finally retiring from Trillium Hospital in 1993. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Albion, serving on the school board there and was very involved in other community activities as well. He was also a Past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus and member of the Sons of the Revolution.
In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Dick is also survived by his son, Matt (Cindy) Wood, granddaughters, Maegan and Kelsie Wood all of Marshall, brother, George Wood of Big Rapids and niece Cindy (Gary) Schuberg also of Big Rapids. Dick was preceded in death by his son Michael Wood in 1983 and his brother Ken Wood of New Mexico.
In honor of Dick’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Mass will be held to celebrate his life on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Joe Gray officiating at St. John Catholic Church, 1020 Irwin Ave., Albion. Burial of ashes at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Jackson, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. John Catholic Church Building Fund.
