Don W. Tauscher

Don W. Tauscher was born December 16, 1933 in Rheinlander Wisconsin and passed away in Altamonte Springs, Florida on December 6, 2022. Our Father had three cornerstones in his life: faith, family, and baseball. Dad was an extraordinary baseball pitcher who was named to the Sports Hall of Fame for both Winter Park High School (Class of 1951) and Rollins College (Class of 1955). He helped his teammates advance Rollins College (the smallest school in history) to the 1954 College World Series and later pitched the Army European Team to their 1957 Championship. He learned to pitch at the age of five from our grandfather, Walt Tauscher, a major league pitcher. Dad met our mother Jeanne at a Winter Park Junior High Dance at the age of 12. He made good on his early promise to marry her when they wed at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in 1955. Together, they had four children and devoted their lives to their faith and community.

During his long life, Don was President of ComBank Winter Park, a Cursillista, a Linkletter Award-Winning Speaker on mortgage finance, and President of the Maitland Rotary. While working at ComBank, Dad earned a Masters of Banking from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Still, nothing was more important to my Dad than his beloved wife Jeanne, his children, and his faith. Don and Jeanne remained active members of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church throughout their lives. He was instrumental in introducing and teaching Crown Ministries to the Catholic Church.

Dad was a gentle and kind man – wise, generous, and compassionate. He was always ready to assist others with finances or life decisions. He will be sorely missed by his children, grandchildren, and large extended family. Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne and their cherished granddaughter, Tiffany Tauscher. He is survived by his sister Dianne T. Rice, and his children and their spouses: Heidi Tauscher & Ray Fannon, Brett & Carol Tauscher, Katy Piumelli & David Rhodes, Paul & Lisa Tauscher. He also is succeeded by six grandchildren: Joshua Tauscher, Nicholas Piumelli, Michael Piumelli, Brittany Tauscher, Abigail Tauscher, and Carrington Tauscher as well as two great-grandchildren Athena Tauscher and Zelda Tauscher.

The Funeral Mass for Don W. Tauscher will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 20 at 1:00 p.m. and will be live-streamed at https://stmargaretmary.org/livestream/ It will be followed by a graveside service at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park and a reception immediately following at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in the Bethany and Cana rooms upstairs.
