Marie was born in Saint Augustine, Florida, January 20th, 1932, Jessie Marie Parrish, to Lewis E. and Doris (Jones) Parrish. She grew up there and graduated from Ketterlinus High school 1950. She attended Florida State University. She met her future husband Frank B. Van Sickle while working for the government in Washington DC. She was married to Frank B. Van Sickle Sr. on July 16, 1955 in Washington DC. Frank served in the United States Navy for 20 years and as a navy wife she lived in multiple places including Charleston, San Diego, Long Island, Norfolk and Parris Island.
Following Frank’s retirement from the Navy in 1968 they bought a home and settled in Casselberry Florida. It is there that they continued to raise their 3 children. She was a working mom as a bookkeeper and hospital records clerk in the 1970’s. She then found her place as bookkeeper and typesetter for a local family owned Print shop until she retired in 1992. She was the first person David knew to use an Apple Computer for layouts in the print shop back in 1989. They were members of Community United Methodist Church in Casselberry and actively involved in the Church. She ran the Sunday School Office on Sunday morning in a volunteer capacity for multiple years. They found and made lifelong friends at Community. She was a devoted mother and family was very important to her. While her parents were alive they traveled back to Saint Augustine every holiday and every chance she could to be with her Parents and Siblings.
They loved to travel and felt it was important for the family to travel together. After settling in Casselberry they bought a camper and took the children on camping trips all over Florida in the 1970’s. In the summer of 1973 the family took a month long driving trip with Lewis and Doris Parrish to circle the US and up into British Columbia and Alberta Canada the return home came down through Minnesota to Tennessee to visit Uncle George Jones’ family. They continued to travel on smaller trips as their children grew up and went to college. They made excursions to visit Kim after she moved to Minnesota and to various parts of the US when she traveled for work. In the mid 90’s Marie got her first passport. She and Frank traveled with the church on a trip to the Holy Land. It was her most exciting trip ever. She loved her mountains and trees of North Carolina. She often stated that this was where she was most at home and peaceful.
She is survived by her 3 Children, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 Sisters. Daughter Kimberly Ann (Sheldon) Giese, son Frank B. Van Sickle Jr., son David E. (Jeninne) Van Sickle; Grandchildren: Louis J. Van Sickle, Lillian M. Van Sickle, Benjamin F.
