Barbara L. Nervig, 65, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Urbandale United Church of Christ (3530 70th St, Urbandale, IA 50322). Burial will follow a luncheon at Lincoln Cemetery near Alleman, IA. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018, at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First Street Ankeny, IA 50023). Memorials may be directed to the Urbandale United Church of Christ, Can Do Cancer, Strands of Strength or Taylor House Hospice.
Barbara Lynne was born on January 3, 1953, to Sylvan A. “Sam” and Lynne (Ballantyne) Momberg in Charles City, IA. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1971 and then went on to North Iowa Area Community College and the University of Northern Iowa graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1975. Barb was united in marriage to James Bruce Nervig on September 30, 1989 in Mason City; they welcomed two children, Margaret and Robby. Barb was a program manager, working for the Iowa Department of Human Services and Iowa Department of Public Health for many years, retiring in 2014.
Barb was a member of the Urbandale United Church of Christ. In her free time she enjoyed knitting, listening to Celtic music and going out for breakfast. She always loved spending time with her friends, family and pet schnauzers.
Barb is survived by her husband, Jim Nervig; children: Margaret and Robby Nervig; sister-in-law and children, Debbie Momberg, Beth Momberg, Kathy Ryan, Chris (Lori) Momberg and Rick (Mary) Momberg and her brother-in-law, Gary (Jo Ellen) Nervig and her beloved pet schnauzer, Sam. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Stephen A. Momberg.
