Ivadel Theodora Juon

She was raised near Huxley Iowa with her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She had fond memories of growing up on the farm, doing chores with her dad, playing sports and music. Almost dying when she was seven years old, Ivy had an emergency appendectomy on the dining room table!

Her first marriage to Willis Juon lasted 9 days; he was tragically electrocuted working on a windmill.

She later married his brother, Merlan Juon, in 1944. Their 62 year marriage ended with his death in 2006.

She worked at Iowa Lutheran Hospital as an LPN and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ivy earned their Goodwill Ambassador award one year for her love and care of people.

Her passions were God, family, church and country.

When Ivy was a young girl, she attended a tent revival meeting and gave her life to Jesus. She really began growing in her faith in her 50’s. She has been a member of Saylorville church for about 25 years and has appreciated the teaching and people there; she loved sharing what she learned.

A person wasn’t around Ivy very long before she talked of spiritual things and politics. She actively helped in many political campaigns. To her children, she was their friend, champion, encourager, and the person who never gave up on them!

She would use her two week vacation during the summer to host a “cousin’s camp.” Her grandchildren were allowed to do some crazy things and have fond memories of their time together.

She never settled for good; she always went for best.

She had amazing eye contact and could get your attention with just a look.

She decided to take art classes at age 90 and did an amazing job.

She made absolutely everyone feel their value.

She communicated with her heart and wasn’t afraid to ask the tough questions.

When she didn’t want to answer a question, she’d say, “Oh, kid, you’re so funny!”

She was fun! She’d challenge her grandson to a game of “mercy,” and he couldn’t wait until he could defeat her!

She loved God’s Word and enjoyed memorizing scriptures that she could share.

She set goals even at 99 to achieve something not yet attained. Her hunger for growth and life has always been inspiring.

Ivy was fairly healthy until about 6 weeks prior to her death. She liked to quote Philippians 4:4-8 which includes, “and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” She experienced that peace throughout her life, during her final days on earth and with the last breath she took.
