Rev. Gioele Settembrini went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2021 in Annapolis, Maryland. Rev. Settembrini was born in Latiano, Italy on May 5, 1930, the fifth of nine children of Rev. Giuseppe and Pompea Settembrini. After graduating from Bible college in Italy he came to the United States in 1954 to study and ultimately earn his degree at Washington Bible Institute. It was there he met his wife of 61 years, Esther Stokes of Annapolis, and they were married in July 1955. Gioele was an operatic tenor and Esther was an accomplished pianist and they "made beautiful music together" until her death in September 2017. Gioele served as an executive with a D.C. nonprofit for many years, served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a full or part-time pastor for several Southern Baptist congregations and delighted audiences all over the world with his amazing singing voice. Gioele is survived by his sisters Evangelina, Vittoria and Natalia and brother Gabriele, Gioele and Esther's two devoted children, Joel (Jane) Settembrini and Karen (Ken) Williams, their five grandchildren Nathan (Lauren), Rebecca and Daniel Settembrini, Kyle Williams, Kaitlin (A.J.) Eckstein and two-week old great-grandson Brooks Eckstein. A visitation will be held at the John M. We were saddened to hear of Gioele’s passing. It was our privilege to meet him years ago and have enjoyed his friendship all these years. Gioele was always ready to sing and bring laughter to all. He spoke at our 50th Wedding Anniversary party and we were proud to have him as our dear friend. Before Esther passed, we had the pleasure of knowing her and the example they lived with the love they had for one another. Gioele always spoke of his adult children and how proud he was of them and his beautiful Grandchildren. May you and your family be comforted in the wonderful memories and legacy of a truly blessed man, the Reverend Settembrini. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. Love to you all.

Gioele was such a special, special person. My friend, and shoulder to lean on. Someone to speak Italian with, and share memories of Italy. You rarely meet someone with so much love, empathy and compassion. And the gift of his voice when he would come to our restaurant was always loved. He commanded an audience and always touched us with his talent. I will miss him incredibly and love him always...

It was a pleasure to know Gioele. There will never be another. He made you feel like a million bucks every moment in his presence . He could make you laugh and love life no matter what was going on around you. My life is richer because of the 50 year friendship with Gioele. I thank God for allowing our paths to keep crossing throughout life. Sincere sympathy to his dear family.

My friend, Gioele:

I love you, my brother.

And I know that love was returned. It showed in the words you said and the actions that you took. Always there when I needed you. I called on you without hesitation-and you responded.

Our Tuesday morning breakfasts were a bonding that I shall never forget. "English muffin, twice toasted" you would say, and always had a waitress to sing to.

The cruise was a highlight to our travels together. What an experience! And you made it all the more wonderful!

God speed, my friend. I shall see you on the other side.
