September 4, 1931December 23, 2017

Rachele L Ryan, of Wild Rose Shores, Annapolis, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on 23 December 2017, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. The daughter of Italian immigrants, she earned a nursing degree from Manhattan State Hospital School of Nursing before eloping with William A (Bill) Ryan, (USNA 1953, the son of an Irish policeman). Rachele (Ray) then lived near Pearl Harbor, San Diego, Virginia Beach, New London, Rota Spain, and the Pentagon where Bill completed a 30-year career in the Submarine Force. Along the way, Rachele raised four sons and practiced nursing, most recently at Anne Arundel Medical Center as a recovery room nurse. At the end of their Navy commitment, Ray and Bill built their retirement home on the South River. Rachele enjoyed cooking for her extended family, gardening, reading, entertaining, and travel. Her four sons, Kevin, Michael, William Patrick, and David, and their families, including eight grandchildren and six great-great- grandchildren, survive her.
