On Thursday, November 15, 2018, Barry Hobart, husband, father, son, and brother, died at the age of 47 after battling multiple myeloma cancer for almost 9-years. Barry was born July 4, 1971 in Cheverly, MD to Walter and Catherine (Welikonich) Hobart. He married his best friend and love Deborah (Cukauskas) Hobart in Vienna, VA on September 23, 2000. He leaves behind his loving wife of 18 years, Debbie, and sons Gavin (age 11) and Kyle (age 10), his parents, sister Jennifer (Hobart) Brinker, his grandmother Kitty Welikonich, and five nieces and two nephews.
Barry had many things in life that he was passionate about including soccer, traveling, all things Sci-Fi (especially Star Wars and Star Trek) and tinkering around with anything electronic. Barry and Debbie were avid scuba divers early in their marriage and traveled to many places to dive such as Mexico, Cocos Island, Galapagos, and French Polynesia.
Barry spent the last 16 years working with the U.S. Treasury as a contractor maintaining various computer systems. However, his most proud achievement during his working career was prior to this position when he worked as a NASA contractor in the design and build of the Landsat 7 satellite. He has also volunteered many hours as a Cub Scout den leader, assistant soccer coach, and various other activities that his sons were involved in.
A funeral mass will be held at St Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 625 Magdala Pl, Apex, NC 27502 on Tuesday, November 20,2018. Viewing begins at 4pm followed by mass at 5pm. Interment will take place on Friday, November 22, 2018 at the family plot at Wake Memorial Park Cemetery.
