Michael Creig Canup
September 8, 1955 – April 27, 2021
Michael Creig Canup, 65 of New Hill, NC entered God’s Kingdom on April 27, 2021
Michael, a native of California, was born on September 8, 1955, to the late Marshal and Margie Canup. Having a father that was a United States Airforce veteran and a lifelong inspiration, at the age of 17 could not wait to make his father and mom proud by joining the United States Navy. Michael proudly served his country and completed his career in the Navy as a recruiter with an honorable discharge, and the highly esteemed title of “The Baconator”. His love for bacon, family, classic rock music, and making friends with strangers, continued throughout his life. Michael’s trademark smile could always be seen amidst the special time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and family. Within this past year, Michael achieved one of his lifelong goals to have long hair, of which he was very proud.
Michael rededicated his life to the Lord and attended church at Oasis Church in Holly Springs, NC. We rest in the assurance that Michael is with our Lord and likely cooking on the grill with to some heavenly rock playing.
Michael’s legacy and trademark smile live on through his wonderful children, Lisa Canup Corby, Christopher Canup and Kimberly & Tyler (husband)Long, and three fantastic grandchildren, Drake, Landon, and Jaxon. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Deborah and sister Cindy Riley, along with special friend Dawn Chapman.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Apex Cemetery in Apex, NC.

I have the fondest memories of Mike. He was a wonderful friend at CHS, and we had some memorable times our senior year. He and I reconnected somewhat through Facebook a few years ago. He wasn’t feeling so well when he made an effort to see me at my mom’s funeral at Apex Funeral Home in 2018. We had a wonderful conversation that day! We also had planned to get together as soon as I was able. Sadly we didn’t ever do that. Don’t wait to tell people how much they mean to you!!

Thank You for your longtime friendship!
We shared many wonderful experiences - some of which may live in infamy for awhile longer. Rooted in a mutual love of music our relationship morphed with age and became stronger.
You are an inspiration to me as you graciously and selflessly supported others in need - veterans, the hungry, and fellow sufferers of Parkinson's Disease (PD).
Peace Be With You and Enjoy Your New Freedom!
The world will miss your positive force. I miss you already!
My deepest sympathies to your family, loved ones, and friends.

I served with Mike at Reserve center Raleigh. He was a friend and I will remember the pranks we use to do there. Fair winds Mike. We have the watch.

I knew Mike when we were in high school. Went to several concerts with him. I later joined the Navy and when I returned home to Cary I was told to check into the Naval Reserve Center in Raleigh. When I walked in I was greeted by the smiling face of my old friend Mike. That was the perfect welcome home. We also had been getting together recently at the lake with other childhood friends. Mike always had a smile on this face and made you feel welcome. He will be missed by many.
May you have fair winds and following seas my friend, we've got the watch now. Job well done sailor.

Mike was one of my oldest and closest friends, someone I've known since we were both in the 8th grade. He was unfailingly kind and generous, and possessed a great heart and a fine sense of humor. I will miss him.

My husband and I had met Michael and Debbie when the kids were little and have been friends since. Even though we have been apart we always love them. I saw Michael in Walmart and he seemed happy several months ago.
My condolences are with the family!!
Love all of you!! We will miss him until we meet again in heaven!
We love you Mikey!!!
