Doreen "Dee" Vivian Bowers

June 17, 1937August 3, 2019

Doreen “Dee” Vivian Bowers, age 82, was born June 17, 1937 in Littleton, NH to her parents, Doris (Crowe) and Carlus Bowen, who are both deceased. She passed away Aug. 3, 2019 in Arlington, Tx. She had Alzheimer’s for the past 10 years, which she faced with grace and dignity, never once complaining about her diagnosis, yet allowing us 10 years to say goodbye under the love and care of her husband.

On June 25, 1960, she married the love of her life, Robert Lewis Bowers at Pease AFB, Portsmouth, NH, after meeting on a blind date. Dee loved being a military wife, traveling to places she had never been before. She looked forward to each new assignment with excitement, making a warm, wonderful home everywhere they traveled. No matter where she was, she always took notice of the beautiful sky, frequently bringing everyone’s attention to its beauty. During her life, she enjoyed reading, knitting, making ceramics, bowling, and doing crossword puzzles. In her 40’s, she learned how to paint and took joy in teaching her grandchildren how to create their own paintings. With this same patience, she always enjoyed making Christmas cookies with them and was always up for a game of Scrabble. Above and beyond everything else in her life, her family was her greatest joy. She was the mom who was present for every activity or special event and who met you at the door after school on a rainy day with towels, PJ’s and hot cocoa, teaching you to appreciate rainy days. She was always so welcoming for anyone to come over to spend time at the house because she absolutely loved spending time with her family and their friends.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Carlus Bowen Jr., and her granddaughter’s husband, Joshua Garcia.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob, her sister, Sylvette Abbott, her son, Brian Bowers and his wife, Marianna; daughter, Cathy Alfaro and her husband, Jose; son, Shawn Bowers and his wife, Kathy; her grandchildren Christina Garcia, Brandyn Bowers, Jared Alfaro, Evan Alfaro, Mitchel Alfaro, Carissa Alfaro, Brett Bowers and Blake Bowers; her great-grandchildren Joshua Alfaro, Elias Garcia, Liliana Garcia, Adelina Alfaro and Emily Bowers.

Graveside services will be Monday, August 12 at 1:15pm at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity.

We are deeply sorry for your loss. The loss of one of us is a loss for all of us in the 509th family. We are thinking about you today and think of you often. We surely could not have had an Air Force career and accomplished what we did without the support of our spouses, the loves of our lives. Nelda and I wish you the best in days and weeks to come. May peace and tranquility be with you in your future.

I have lost a dear friend. Ernie and I were so privileged to know the Bowers from our Pope Air Force Base days. It was such a delight to travel with you both in the ensuing years. We had many laughs, saw so many wonderful sites, and experienced great friendship.

I know Ernie and Dee are now in heaven laughing at each other jokes.

My prayers are with Bob and the family.
