Irene M. Untrecht, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018. She was born on May 24, 1932 in Glasgow, Scotland, to Willie and Gracie Drummond.

Irene moved to the United States in 1955 where she met her husband, Alan A. Untrecht, during his service in the U.S. Marines Corp. Irene married her longtime love in 1968, who preceded her death in 2004. Irene and Alan enjoyed travelling and lived in many places throughout the United States, including California and Arizona, before finally settling down in Joshua, Texas, where she watched her three boys graduate from high school and eventually move out on their own.

To the many who knew her, she was a one-of-a-kind Scottish redhead and was never afraid to speak her mind. Irene had an insatiable habit to speak to anyone and everyone around her and easily made friends everywhere she went. Family and friends will also remember Irene for her annual New Year Eve’s parties, where she would cook amazing dishes and entertain friends and family with Scottish music, dance and funny stories. This was a tradition that she kept for many decades and was the event of the year for many of her friends and neighbors.

Among many of her passions, she loved gardening and trying to find that perfect plant; one which would bloom consistently and require little to no maintenance.

If there was one thing that competed with her love for her family, it was the love she had for her animals. Not a day would go by where she wasn’t caring for a dog, or a cat, or any of the numerous wild animals that showed up outside her kitchen window. Whether it was for H.S., Patch, Bubbles, Smokey, Bandit, Heidi, or Bessie, she was very passionate for their care and would often go out of her way to make sure they had food and shelter. Irene was loved by many people and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her three sons David Untrecht and girlfriend Janice, Scott Untrecht and fiancé Melissa, Ian Untrecht and wife Sheri, and grandchildren Jaclyn, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, and Danielle; and cousins Terry Drummond and Dawn and Todd Untrecht.

To the family, especially David and Janice:
I will always have a special place in my heart for Irene. My mom was no longer able to take care of her energetic, (senior border collie (Bessie) that she'd had since she was a puppy. I was looking for a special home for her and Irene provided that home. She gave her love, warmth, hugs, etc.; everything that Bessie needed.
May God comfort you during this time. From looking at the pictures of Irene, it is clear that you have many wonderful memories of her.

Our deepest condolences,
Deniese and Bryan Itz
