Maria Esperanza Greenwood, age 62 of Arlington, passed away peacefully at her home on November 3, 2018. She was born on September 10, 1956 in Jamundi, Colombia, the daughter of Gabriel Antonio Palacios and Marciana Viafara. Maria was raised by her aunt whose home was filled with 22 other girls she had taken in. Maria lived in Panama for several years, where she did some modeling and began her nursing career. While in Panama, Maria met her first husband, Epsie Wyatt, whom she had her first daughter Monica and later after moving to Texas had Elizabeth. In 1991, Maria had her third daughter, Christi, with her second husband Willie Greenwood Jr.
Spanning almost 40 years, Maria enjoyed a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Maria's work ethic and pride were evident to those around here as she was selected among other caretakers to be featured in a book written by a resident's parent. In her free time, Maria enjoyed do-it-herself projects and tending to her garden of tropical plants which she found relaxing and tranquil. Maria was also an avid bargain shopper and could easily manipulate salespeople into striking unbelievable deals.
Maria's family was her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Willie Greenwood Jr, in 2004, and her first husband, Epsie Wyatt, in 2017. She is survived by her daughters Monica Wyatt and her children Ellis Riley and Blake Freeman; Elizabeth Wyatt-Sandoval and children Gabriel and Caleb Manzano, Cataleya and Natalia Sandoval; Christi Greenwood; step-sons Willie Greenwood III and family, and Corey Greenwood and family; brothers Jaime, Marcos, and Oscar Viafara.
Visitation will be Friday, November 9 from 4-8PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. Funeral service Saturday at 3PM, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens.
