Marjorie Hammond Dykstra of Arlington, TX, went to heaven, her ‘real’ home (as she called it) on Sunday evening, April 15, 2018. Marjorie was born on September 19, 1929, the daughter of Julian and Mary Josephine Hammond (nee Wilson) of Colorado City, TX.
Her mother led Marjorie to the Lord when she was four years old and she was raised in a Christian home.
She graduated from high school in 1946 at age 16 and attended Bob Jones College in Greenville, South Carolina, where she met Louis Dykstra.
Marjorie and Louis Dykstra were married on December 27, 1950 and she taught school until their first son Dean was born. During the years that Louis worked at Chance Vought Aircraft their other sons Ron and Kenneth were born.
Marjorie was a church soloist, a piano teacher, a Bible Study leader, and organized the church nursery. She loved to cook and bake and her skills developed for her a great reputation in their community. Marjorie also loved to sew and to embroider and created many quilts, blankets, and other works of art, that she shared with her family.
When Louis retired, they enjoyed several years of travel. Their lives changed when Louis developed Alzheimer’s Disease during which she lovingly cared for him. She became a widow when the Lord took him to his heavenly home on March 14, 2004.
In 2008, after four years of living alone in her house, Marjorie moved to Brookdale, an independent, retirement complex where she enjoyed ten, wonderful years. One month ago she moved to Oxford Glen, a memory care facility, where she died peacefully on April 15, 2018.
Marjorie has five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who are spread out across the country and of whom she is very proud. She loved showing the picture of her family to the staff at Oxford Glen and explaining each one, while she was able to do so.
In her memoirs, she wrote, “The Lord is faithful to His Word when He said, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it!”
She also wrote, “I am very blessed to have lived in nice places in my retirement years. I have many friends; I have had a very blessed life and am looking forward to seeing my Lord. “Even so come, Lord Jesus”. (Rev. 22:20)
One of Marjorie’s’ many favorite verses is 2 Samuel 22:31, As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
