Mattie “Jo” Stovall Atchison went to be with her Lord on February 15, 2019 following a long illness. She was born on August 12, 1932 in Gadsden, Alabama to Walter and Nora Stovall, and was the youngest of their eight girls. She met her future husband, Lex, when on vacation in Texas with her best friend in 1951. She and Lex were married in 1952 and spent their married life in Texas, Florida and Colorado. In their later years, they frequently traveled to Lex’s navy reunions all across the country. Jo was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite pasttimes were spending time with her grandchildren, reading (the love of which she passed along to all her family), going to movies, and shopping. She also loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, orchestra and choir concerts, and art exhibitions.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Atchison Bruce, grandchildren Christopher Bruce (Cynthia), Hayden Atchison, and Joanna Atchison, great-grandson William Bruce, her former daughter-in-law, Becky Mireles (Peter), as well as a large and loving extended family and friends.
Jo was predeceased by her husband, Lexas “Lex” J. Atchison, sons Jeffrey Atchison and Brian Atchison, her parents Walter and Nora Stovall, and sisters Burvil Rogers, Joyce Ledbetter, Jewell Street, Inez Yancey, Minnie Brady, Willene Smith, and Jacqueline Brown.
FUNERAL: Visitation at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home Tuesday, February 19th from 9-10am, followed by the service at 10am. Interment at DFW National Cemetery.
