Thomas Alvin Pipkin passed peacefully into his heavenly home on Thursday, February 14, 2019. He was born February 4, 1930 in Blanco, Oklahoma. He graduated from Haileyville High School and enlisted with the Oklahoma Army National Guard. Thereafter, he was transferred to the 187th Airborne where he served as a Ranger Paratrooper at the end of the Korean Conflict. While finishing his National Guard service, he graduated from Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma, with a Bachelor of Education. In Durant, he met his eventual bride, Lorene Fowler of Valliant, Oklahoma. They married in Durant on August 17, 1957.
After brief stays in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Coffeyville, Kansas, they relocated to Houston, Texas, in 1960, where he raised his family and worked in the oil industry for Parkersburg Rig & Reel Co. and Texaco as a Crude Oil Pricing Analyst until his retirement in 1987. In 1992, they moved from Houston to Arlington to be near their children, grandchildren, and other family. Tom was a member of Memorial Church of Christ in Houston for 28 years and Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington for 27 years, where he worked with Hearts and Hands. He was a faithful Christian, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and enjoyed tennis and gardening.
Tom is preceded in death by his father and mother, Omer Harvel Pipkin and Aleene Allen, along with his brother, Omer Allen Pipkin and wife Margie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lorene Pipkin, daughter Lori Hansen and husband Kris, son Mike Pipkin and wife Lisa, and four grandchildren, Jordan Hansen, Michael Pipkin, and Mary Ellen Sorrell and husband Ben. He is also survived by his sisters, Rita Pipkin Miller and Laura Beth Davidson and husband James, along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation with the family on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Dr. in Arlington. The family will be holding a private burial. All are invited to the Celebration of Life service on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington, Texas. The family would like to thank Sallie with Visiting Angels and all those with Christian Care Center Hospice and Home2Stay who helped make his final days more comfortable.
