Troy grew up in the Arlington/Grand Prairie area with his 8 siblings.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N Davis, Arlington, Texas. Visitation at Moore Funeral Home will be on Friday, March 23, 2018, from 10:00am-12:00pm, with the graveside service beginning at 12:15pm in Moore Memorial Gardens.
On February 5, 1943, Troy enlisted in the Army, serving as a High Speed Radio Operator in the 1st Radio Squadron (Mobile) APO 710. He was stationed at various locations in the South Pacific until his discharge on February 7, 1946. Troy then enrolled in Southern Methodist University and graduated with a degree in Accounting. Troy worked as a bookkeeper and tax account until his retirement in 1999. In 1952, Troy married his wife of 49 years, Mildred Fowler.
Troy was an avid baseball player in his youth and switched to softball in his later years, beginning in 1987. He was a member of the Metroplex Senior Citizens Softball Association for over 25 years, and continued playing until he was 88. He played in leagues throughout the metroplex and was also on traveling tournament teams. In 2001, Troy was elected into the Texas Senior Softball Hall of Fame.
In 2014, Troy was honor with a flight to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at the war memorials through the Honor Flight Network, a non-profit organization honoring veterans for their sacrifices.
Troy was preceded in death by his wife, parents, his six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by numerous nephews and nieces, who loved him dearly.
