David “YeeSun” Wai was born on November 5, 1936, in Fujian Province, China. David’s father owned businesses in Fuzhou, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou, until he lost his life when David was 3 years old during the Japanese invasion of China. After fleeing his hometown during the invasion, David and his mother arrived Hong Kong and eventually relocated to Taiwan. David received his Bachelor’s degree from National Chung Hsing University and upon graduation, he began his teaching career at the National Tung-Shih Senior High School in Chia-Yi, Taiwan. After two years of service, he returned to Taipei and taught at the Guting Women's School, where he devoted his next 30 years in public education until his retirement in 1995.
In 1964, David met his wife, Doris Wai, and the two were married in 1969. In 49 years of marriage, the couple formed an unbreakable bond and a deep friendship. David and Doris had two children: Kane, their son and Amy, their daughter.
David spent his retirement years traveling throughout the US and abroad and enjoying his many hobbies, including reading, brush calligraphy, building model ships, planes and cars, and filling the house with many creative artworks. David also loved classical music and loved to sing.
David came to Christ late in his life through the leading and prayers of his wife, Doris. The two can be found praying together often. David often takes the initiative and reminds the couple to pray together while seeking God in all things. Though he has only known his Lord for a short time, his faith is strong. He has often been heard saying, "I’m amazed how much God is in my head!"
David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Doris, son Kane, daughter Amy, daughter-in-law Chantelle, and grandson Ethan.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis
