Janice Nancy Wallis
July 3, 1942 – July 16, 2021
Janice N. Wallis, 79, of Arlington, Washington, died July 16, 2021 in Everett, Washington.
Jan was born July3, 1942 in Chicago to Walter and Ann (Baran) Lechowicz.
Before she retired, Jan was a dedicated Registered Nurse at Providence/Swedish hospital in Seattle for 35+ years in the Emergency department.
She enjoyed gardening and volunteering her time with the church and community. Jan was named “2017 Volunteer of The Year” by the Staff of Arlington’s Immaculate Conception Parish. A well-deserved recipient.
Over the years Jan has worn several hats. They are as she served whenever needed as the eyes, ears, hands and feet of Jesus.
St. Vincent de Paul was very dear to Jan. She worked throughout the year with intake of clients as well as home visits assessing their needs. Jan’s heart was really into the “Giving Tree” at Christmas. She interviewed many families identifying their needs and wishes. Making sure the children had gifts for Christmas. She gathered the gifts keeping them organized by family all through the process of receiving unwrapped gifts, to wrapping, bagging families together to distribution of the gifts all the while retaining strict continentality.
She worked for our community Homeless Shelter here at ICC offered during freezing weather on Sunday and Monday morning at our Church. She fixed a big breakfast for them arriving at 4 am as well as making them a to-go lunch bag. They knew her by name! She assisted with a Christmas dinner for those in need as well as the homeless.
She worked on our Funeral Committee, assisting with all aspects of the Reception following the Service. This included set-up of the Hall the day before. The day of the service she was there at 7 am to help with making sub sandwiches, set the food out, serving and helping with cleanup. She often took home the tablecloths or kitchen towels to wash them.
She helped with crafts at Vacation Bible School for several years. She really enjoyed the children.
She helped at daily mass as a sacristan setting up for the mass as well as cleaning up after mass and getting everything put away
She helped with decorating the church for Christmas and Easter. This included working in the yard weeding and planting flowers out front at the entry to the Church in the Spring.
She was honored to organize, set-up and serve at a Reception for those new Catholics in the RCIA program following the Easter Vigil.
She sponsored a student attending our Sister Parish in Kenya. She was happy with this ministry helping students receive an education. This legacy will continue.
Visited Catholics with Communion at Regency Care Re-hab.
Basically, if something needed to be done, she stepped up and made it happen. She will be missed.
Jan is survived by her loving daughter and son-in law, Guenna and Jason Roth of Vancouver, Washington; sister Barbara Lechowicz; grandkids Alexandria, Hailee and Brady. She will be missed by many friends.
