He was born on October 4, 1946, to Norman and Gladys Fettes in Gladmar, SK. The family farmed in the Gladmar and Minton district, until October 1949 when they moved to farm northwest of Readlyn in the RM Lake of the Rivers No. 72. Garry was raised with a deep appreciation for the land and a strong sense of responsibility. These values served as the foundation for his career as a farmer and rancher, where he poured his heart and soul into nurturing the fields and tending to livestock. It was not just the land and animals that Garry cherished; it was his role as a father and later as Papa that truly defined him.
Dad was known for his work ethic and dedication, as well as his immense capacity for love and kindness. He had a heart as vast as the open skies he cherished, always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone in need. Dad’s humble demeanor and unwavering compassion resonated deeply within the hearts of those who knew him. His impact extended far beyond the borders of his land and his genuineness will be remembered by those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Dad was a constant source of love, support and guidance. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of empathy, hard work, and perseverance, instilling in them a deep love for the land and animals. Dad’s gentle manner and patient teachings will forever be etched in the hearts of his children and grandchildren, who carry on his legacy with immense pride and determination.
As we gather to celebrate Dad’s life, let us not mourn his passing but cherish the memories of his dedication to his family, his gentle nature with all animals, and his humble appreciation for the land that sustains us.
Rest in peace Dad, your love will forever live on in our hearts. “You know what?”
