January 16, 1950 – December 8, 2023
Garry was predeceased by his mother, Julie Illes, his father, Ingmar Hofseth, his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Heggs, and his father-in-law, Elmer Toner.
Garry leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 53 years, Jean Hofseth and their three beautiful children and their families: son, Corey Hofseth, and his children, Jordan and Ty and great-granddaughter, Scarlett; son, Jeremy Hofseth and his children Karmyn and Kohler; daughter, Cindee Hofseth and her son Cole; his two brothers, Neil Hofseth (Donna) and Wade Hofseth (Phyllis). He also leaves many loving cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
As one of Jehovah witnesses, Garry enjoyed visiting with others about his faith and Gods purpose for the Earth to be restored back into a paradise. His hope brought him comfort throughout his life, and it brings his family comfort now to look forward to seeing him again. He also loved Jesus words at John 5:28,29 and it says, “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” He is sleeping now, but he fell asleep confident in waking up in God’s perfect world.
Garry was born in Gladmar SK, on January 16, 1950. He grew up on a farm south of Beaubier, SK. Shortly after, he moved with his mother and father to the house he grew up in across the street from the town of Beaubier. Garry went to school in Gladmar where he received his grade 12 in 1968. During his grade 12 school year, Garry took up driving the school bus and he continued that for 37 years. In 2006, he started driving gravel truck and he did that until 2016. After that, Garry took up driving for chartered bus tours and he continued that until his passing. Along with that, Garry farmed for most of his life. In 1970 he married Jean Toner and they moved onto the Hofseth farm at Beaubier. When their oldest son Corey was born in 1973, they moved onto their own farm outside Ceylon where they also raised their next two children Jeremy and Cindee and remained on the farm until 2003 when Garry and Jean moved to Bengough. Garry was surrounded by his family when he passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 73, in Bengough SK.
Garry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, brother and friend and spent many of his days doing things with those he loved. If the wheels were moving, Garry was happy. Garry went on many motorcycle trips alongside his son Corey, brother Wade and grandson Cole. Travelling was a large part of Garry’s life, and he was filled with stories from his time driving for chartered bus tours. On the bus, Garry took in many hockey games for various teams and drove trips all over Canada and the USA. His second family was his bus family. Garry is remembered by his grandchildren for all the snowmobiling they did together, at home and at his favorite place, the family cabin in Lake of the Prairies, MB. Of all the things Garry loved, his grandchildren were by far the most cherished and they were holding his hand up until the very end.
Garry will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone who was blessed to know him. Our family would like to thank you for all the phone calls, gifts, prayers and loving support through this difficult time.
There was a celebration of life held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2pm at the Bengough Community Center, with a lunch to follow, and a PowerPoint presentation before and after the service. Warren Volke spoke. Interment at a later date in Beaubier Cemetery.
