Doreen has a beautiful spirit for life and living it.
Doreen Dell lived on the Central Coast initially in Cambria, Pismo Beach and most recently Atascadero. She passed away on November 9, 2018 with family and friends near to her heart.
Her life began in Cardiff, which is a port city on the south coast of Wales. She entered the Royal Air Force during World War II in 1943, which is where she met her husband. They married in Ely, Cambridge, England in 1945. She worked hard her entire life and left a memory wherever she was employed. She has four daughters and lived in America since 1950. From her daughters, she has nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
The couple moved to Pennsylvania in 1950, and later moved to Los Angeles in 1960. Retirement landed them in Cambria (the Latin name for Wales) in 1975 which they both enjoyed the quaint town, plus being close to the ocean. Cambria has many Welsh attributes, making it very familiar setting for their retirement years. There they had a bed and breakfast which they relished. They enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know them over breakfast. What started has just a casual thought became a social network of repeat guests and forging long time friendships. Guests loved our parents and it was fun to witness the enjoyment they were having. Her husband passed away in 1992. A few years later Doreen made her life in Pismo Beach. Though retired, she felt a desire to enter the work force again, and she got a job the first day out at a Carpet Store near her home. She worked at Macie’s for 10 years. According to Paul and Renee, people are still inquiring about the adorable English Lady.
Doreen is very creative in everything she does being inside or outside her home. She is always broadening her mind in the electronic age and how she sees people. She always looks beautiful and dresses stylishly, she has a wonderful mind, funny wisecrack British humor, is very petite, has an insightful green thumb (clearly evident in her beautiful English garden), a willingness to help others, and an aptitude for letting nothing get by her. Doreen is a breath of fresh air, and cherishes and enjoys each day that breaks.
She truly is a role model for any persons young or old that knows her. She is an inspiration, and whenever you’re with her, she can lift your mood. She laughs, enjoys life, and is in touch with the youth of today. She can make a meal in seconds flat, be it her famous fried chicken, the best pancakes in the whole of the USA, a hot bowl of freshly cooked spaghetti, or a delicious warm custard. She is huggable, welcoming and always learning.
Doreen is Our Mother, Our Grandmother and Our “Great” Grandmother. She will be missed, but she will forever be a part of our hearts and minds. We all love you so much!
Arrangements are by Chapel of Roses Mortuary, with a Graveside service on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at 1 Cemetery Road in Atascadero.
