Wilma Ruth Smysor, age 94, of Huntsville, AL passed to eternal rest on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband George F. Smysor, daughter Judy Kay Norris, son-in-law Verlin S. Norris, her parents, Cyrus and Clana Florea, and two brothers, Dean D. Florea and Virgil S. Florea. Her survivors include three grandchildren: Toby (Alice) Norris, Steve (Tammy) Norris, Deborah Smith; two great-grand daughters (Tawnya Smith and Stephanie Norris), and one great-great-granddaughter (Mcaylah Smith). She is also survived by her brother, George C Florea and his wife Nancy. Her life began on Nov 9, 1922 in the small town of Canton, Illinois. She graduated from high school in 1940. On March 27, 1943 she married George F. Smysor in Palmyra, Missouri. One year later they gave birth to their only child, Judy Kay (1944-2011). The family eventually moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1948 where she would live for the next 26 years. In 1975 she and her husband moved to Fort Myers, Florida where they lived for 23 years. In 1998 she retired at the age of 76 and moved to Stuart, Florida. Her husband passed away in 1999 after 56 years of marriage. In 2008 she moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Huntsville, Alabama. Wilma was a devoted wife and mother. She also worked as a cosmetologist for over 50 years in Colorado and Florida. She owned her own hair salon in Boulder, Colorado for over 20 years. She will be remembered as a generous, thoughtful, and hard-working woman who gave all of herself to her family. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Hospice of North Alabama. Please make any memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at Her memorial service will be held at McConnell funeral home in Athens, AL on Jan 21 at 2:00 pm.
