SOUTH PARIS: Albert R. Stronach, 87, of Mechanic Falls passed away Monday morning at the Maine Veterans Nursing Home in So. Paris with his family by his side. He was born in Auburn, ME on August 23, 1926, a son of the late William and Elsie R. (Ranlett) Stronach. He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School, class of 1944, and then entered the Navy to serve his country during WWII. He also served in the Maine Army National Guard upon his return. On June 12, 1954 he married his beloved wife Jean Thurlow and they had two daughters, Sandra and Debra. Albert worked at the paper mill in Mechanic Falls until Marcal closed in 1982. He then worked at Pejebscott Paper Mill in Topsham until his retirement in 1988. Time spent with his family was very important to Albert, including picnics, Sunday dinners, and camping trips throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and into Canada. He volunteered for the American Red Cross and MARS (contacting family of their enlisted’s safe arrival to destination). A ham radio enthusiast, Al belonged to a local amateur club where he volunteered communication assistance to community events. He was also a member of Tyrian Hall #73 A.F. & A.M. Al was also a life member of both the VFW and American Legion Post 150. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Jean Stronach, his daughter Sandra Plummer, Grandson Troy Plummer and his wife Dawn, and great-grandsons Jameson and Jonathan Plummer all of Mechanic Falls. He is also survived by his sisters Alice Jean Pepin of Mechanic Falls and Marion Finnity of Florida as well as many nieces, nephews and the extended family of the Driscoll clan. He was predeceased by his daughter Debra, sisters Ellen Larrabee and baby Margaret, a brother Ret. Col. Lewis Millett MoH., and nephews Christopher Pepin and John Millett. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful people at the Maine Veteran’s Home in South Paris for their kindness and caring of Al. Visiting Hours will take place on Sunday December 1 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the funeral home in Auburn. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday December 2 at 11am also at the funeral home followed by a committal service with military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery in Auburn.
