I got to know Bert when we both worked at St. Mary's in the late 1980's. He was always very friendly and supportive of everyone I saw him with, both at St. Mary's, and when he filled in at St. Philip's in Auburn and joined parish groups after Mass. I remember one funny thing that might give people a little chuckle. We ran into him at the Chinese buffet at the Lewiston Mall several years ago. He was seated alone before we joined him, and he had the biggest heaping plate of Chinese food I ever saw. I teased him that I could see what his favorite thing in life was. He quickly rebuked me, telling me that God was always #1, then food #2.

Our love and prayers to you at this time.
Have known Fr. Bert since he began living at St. Joseph's manor until the current time.
Shared many conversations each Saturday with Fr. Bert , as a weekend volunteer.
Fr. Bert and I always made sure other elderly in need would be visited.
Being a truck driver was a memory of years past.
Sorry that a bad cold prevented me from being present at the funeral.
Will send a contribution for prayer for your family.

I remember Father Bert as a very good priest at our St. Louis Parish in New Auburn. Later on he was transferred to St. Mary's Hospital where he served as an excellent chaplain comforting the sick and consoling their respective families. My wife Patricia and I benefitted from his spiritual guidance and we became very close to him. He was there for us when my mother Regina was terminally ill with cancer. He administered the "Last Rites" to her in January 1990 and she went to heaven. In 1996 and 1997 we lost three of our parents inside of 9 months. Again Father Bert was there for us. My wife lost her mother Elizabeth and father Raymond and she relied deeply on Father Bert's spiritual guidance. My father Alfred died in February 1997 and Father Bert helped send him to heaven. We always admired Father Bert and his service to God and our Catholic faith. Every year since my mother died in 1990 we gladly rejoiced by remembering our dear friend Father Bert by sending a Spiritual Christmas Card and a small check in deep appreciation for what he did for us. We sent our last Christmas card and check in December 2018 and received a nice thank you call from his sister. We won't be able to send you any more cards Father Bert but we are sure you have a special place in heaven as your reward for helping guide thousands of people during your lifetime. RIP in heaven Father Bert!
