Meryl M. (Bowen) Ashton passed on Sunday, May 26, 2019. She was born on October 31, 1926 in Cooperstown, NY to Francis and Lena Bowen, the youngest of three girls.
Meryl was preceded in death by her loving husband Lee in November of 2004. Meryl and Lee were married on January 31, 1945 and they had five children: Marilyn, Jacqueline, Scott, Beth and Frank. They resided in Cooperstown, NY; Oneonta, NY; Laurens, NY; and finally retired to Lake Wales, FL in 1988.

She was a past District Deputy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Woodland Metis Tribe and loved to sing as a member of the Lake Wales “Sassy” Singers. Miss Meryl was always up for adventure; whether it be a road trip to New York or Colorado or just cruising around in her red PT cruiser. She always loved dogs from the family dog Pepper to Kris and Jason or her beloved little white Trouble.
Left to cherish her memory are Marilyn Holmes and her husband Ray, Jacqueline Semit and her husband Cary, Scott and his wife Laura, Beth Ashton, and Frank and his wife Julie; 7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandsons and 10 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice for the care and compassion they provided during the last few weeks of Meryl’s life.

So honored to have known Meryl. I have many fond memories of each time my family visited with her and Lee. In addition to outings together, we spent many holidays with them at my brother-in-law Frank’s home. We always played a spirited board game and she would share her loving family memories. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a kind soul that never missed an opportunity to compliment others. She will be missed. I know she will be met at heaven’s gate by her soul mate. Rest In Peace

Meryl was more a mother to me then my own mother! I will always remember the trip to the Catskill Game Farm... and another time when she comforted me after a great loss of my own. God bless her mightily and I know she and Lee are in each others arms today!
