Hildegard Margarete Peslin Oaks, of Augusta, passed away on July 26, 2020, aged 90, after a fall in her home on June 20th. Mrs. Oaks was born November 2, 1929 in Bahn, Kreis Greifenhagen Germany and is remembered for her love of traveling, gardening and her award-winning bowling skills. She had numerous friends and extended family all over the world that she enjoyed sending and receiving cards and correspondence with.
She is survived by her son, Michael Oaks (Belinda), two grandchildren, Jonathan and Cristina, brother-in-law, Charles L. Oaks, of Chattanooga, Tenn., sister-in-law Mary Jo Bain, of Chickamugua, Ga., numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved bowling league family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Wilhelmine (Pohl) Peslin, her sisters, Anna B. Peslin Zimmerman, Erna E. Peslin and Erika Peslin Stilli, and her husband Fred Lawrence Oaks, a 20-year Army veteran that served in Vietnam.
Per Mrs. Oaks’ wishes, there was no service. She was laid to rest on August 4, 2020 in the Garden of Peace at Bellevue Memorials Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Augusta, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
