Mahlon "Tom" Drenkhahn

December 11, 1943June 26, 2020

Mahlon “Tom” Drenkhahn, aged 76. Beloved husband of Hertha Piercy, passed away peacefully to rejoin her & be with his Lord and Savior on June 26th. Tom was a kindhearted and soft-spoken man who lived life simply and loved his family. Tom proudly served the United States Marine Corps as a Warrant Officer, retiring after a long and successful career. Tom especially loved the cherry blossoms in Japan and often spoke fondly of his time there. Tom enjoyed fishing and could often be seen in his motorboat, stretched out with a Pepsi, catching a few rays and an occasional fish out of Lake Leitner, Fort Gordon. A dutiful member of the community, Tom volunteered extensively for the American Legion Post 63, and among other duties proudly served as its Post Commander. Tom also volunteered in a variety of roles at Fort Gordon, including opening the first SWAP shop where he would share his time to help service members and their families find and exchange household goods. It was there that he met his late wife Hertha Piercy. Together, they spent many joyful years together meeting new people, dancing, traveling extensively and spending time with family. He is survived by his loving wife’s family including her three children; Robert (Jody) Piercy (Hephzibah, GA), Ernst (Linda) Piercy (Colorado Springs, CO), and Carol (Peter) Hedly (Kirkland, WA). He is also survived by her seven Grandchildren, four Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild. Special thanks to all the personnel and medical staff from the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta who worked to make him comfortable during the time he spent there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tom’s name to the American Legion Post 63, 90 Milledge Road, Augusta, GA, 30904. In light of the Covid-19 Pandemic, memorial services will be private and for family members.

Tom, you brought many smiles and happy years of joy and travel to mom Hertha. We appreciate the happiness, love, and joy you brought to our lives. Nicholas and Bella have fond memories of playing mini golf and spending time at the family fun center with you together. We will also remember your gentleness and kind smile, and love of animals. Your longtime doggie companions Foxy and Shadow are waving their tails and jumping for joy as you join them and mom.
Love Carol, Peter, Nicholas, and Bella
