Died peacefully in her home, holding all her kids hands, on April 18, 2021.
Maggie had 30,942 days on this earth – she was 84 years old.
The 6th child of Veronica and Joseph Engelmeier. She was born in Cold Spring, Minnesota on July 26, 1936. The same year Franklin D. Roosevelt was president, Hitler broke the Treaty of Versailles and the Time Person of the Year was Wallis Simpson.
Completing high school in Cold Spring she quickly went to work in the city and shortly after met John Raugland.
Maggie and John wed on May 30, 1959 in Minneapolis and settled in Aurora Colorado 4 years later. Colorado became their forever home.
Maggie loved reading and crosswords – she also loved the Denver Post Cryptoquip but admitted she cheated on those often. Being an avid reader, it was not unusual for her to check out 10 books from the library every couple of weeks. She loved historical fiction mostly – we teased she would run out of history to read about!
In her younger years she enjoyed league bowling with friends, camping near South Park and playing cards – cribbage was her game and she was incredibly hard to beat (she did not cheat at that). Sewing and knitting were a passion as well. Most of Maggie’s wardrobe was handmade. The nicest pieces included her personalized tag “Handmade by Madlyn” subtly tucked inside. She was most definitely the OG of DIY.
