My Dearest Carol, Taylor, Olive & Craig,
Your dad, grandpa & husband was truly a remarkable man and as you all say and I wholeheartedly agree a gentleman.
I first met Peter as a young teenage girl and he always made me feel welcome in your home.  I fondly remember Sunday night dinners at the Peddie's, as a special family time and your dad/grandpa/husband always made me feel like I was family too!  
Remember the summer Carol ~ we worked downtown at Dun & Bradstreet as teens and your father kindly and patiently waited, as he picked me up each morning to drive from Markham to downtown Toronto and I was never ready – and he and you always waited as I rushed out the door.  I kept thinking Mr. Peddie will get one day leave me as I am always making him late for work, but each day that summer he patiently waited for me to scramble out to his car. 
You are all truly very fortunate to have such an incredibly kind, generous, loving father, grandfather and husband in your lives and most of all, he always knew how much you all dearly and deeply loved him.  Your memories someday will be comforting ~ and he will always be with you. Love always and forever, Karen.

Dear Olive and family…
It was wonderful having our brief visit at the funeral home last week to catch up and talk about Peter.
He was without doubt a unique individual who had an enormous impact on my life…both professionally and personally.  Peter was passionate about his work and nothing gave him more satisfaction than training his team.  
However, Peter was a complex individual whose values transcended the work place.  
He was fiercely loyal, always a gentleman, and conducted himself with absolute integrity at all times.
It was these characteristics that resulted in the friendship that Peter and I shared for over thirty years.
I will miss our infrequent golf games, our long telephone conversations, and his genuine interest in what was going on in my life.
I was fortunate to have been able to work with Peter, but was blessed to be able to call him my friend.  
Peter will live on in his family and in the lives of all those he touched.

Dear Pierre, long time buddy and husband,  father and grandfather to a wonderful family and golfer of some renown.
The last few holes of your round have not been a lot of fun for you but how well i remember how well we played the
last few of the front 9 and a  few of the back from 1975 to 1984. We had a few bogeys the odd double and many pars however we enjoyed a lot of birdies as we marked out cards with a net profit of 9%. The good old days in retailing for sure however the highlight had to be the thunderous long drive you hit at the Old Timers Tournament to win and host that beautiful trophy in honour. 
Pierre even though i saw you a few times in late 2011 and 2012  and spoke to you regularly i did not realize how difficult your journey was becoming and only got a feeling for your plight when i heard dear Olive packed you in the back of the car and drove you straight back from Florida for medical treatment in Toronto. Dear Olive what a force. 
Last week i met Taylor and Carol and Craig for the first time and related many of the good times we had together
and how much our friendship meant to me.
Poor Taylor and i left a trail of tears in the parking lot of the home as we walked and talked and she told me how you had become her father and 
done all the big and little things for her that now mean so much.
Olive, Carol Taylor and Craig are great testaments to you Pierre and you live on in them.

Olive and Family: I have so many wonderful memories of Peter over the many years we worked together. One in particular makes me laugh to this day. While working together in the Men's Department, Peter and I were visiting Ottawa  showing his new line to the store people and our rented car was broken into one night in the hotel parking lot. His entire set of samples was stolen (about 150-200 items). The next day, Peter insisted on continuing his presentation to the store people and I remember him standing at a blackboard in the training room actually drawing each item in the line, talking about it's colour and material content!! Only Peter could do that with such class and professionalism. He was a great Merchant and an even greater Gentleman. He will be missed by his many friends!

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Peter.  As I read the many thoughts of his friends and co-workers one thread is clear that he will certainly be missed and that he was dearly loved by all who knew him.  He left his mark on this world and his influences will be felt for many generations as those who knew him will pass on the very traits that made him who he was. 
When I first met Carol as a young girl, I was always so jealous of her wardrobe certainly one of the perks of having your dad work for the Children's department at Sears.

Olive and Family......There was a generation of Sears buyers that had the privilege of working under the tutelage of Peter Peddie. I count myself extremely fortunate to have been a member of that group. I am still in the retail business and every day a decision is made based on his mentorship. Peter was one of those rare individuals that took as much pride in your success as his own. There is no question he mentored all those who worked with him. Olive and family...my deepest sympathies on Peter's passing. I was one of the very many that had the honour and privilege to work with and learn from him. As I'm sure is happening with all who knew him, the memories have been flooding in. Two things have kept coming to mind for me:  first is the evening of his retirement...it is a testament to the esteem in which he is held by everyone from all parts of the globe that I believe I can speak for all that were there that there hasn't been another event since that comes close to matching that evening's outpouring of Affection, Respect and Thanks. The other point is that in the many business situations I've been involved with, I constantly am aware that they all benefit from having that 'touch of Peter'.  His influence has been profound, he never tired of teaching and nurturing, nor begrudged any time needed to help one learn. His fairness, integrity, passion and respect for all that he did are a legacy that will be remembered always. There has been a rising tide of emails since yesterday from many of those he touched, all expressing their thoughts and memories.  One in particular struck me for its simplicity and yet completeness:  "we've had the privilege and have been blessed with knowing a great guy...."

I was fortunate to work for Mr Peddie just prior to his retirement. He always believed in my abilities and helped me achieve success. 
My fondest memory of him is when the small folding scooters were all the rage. Someone had brought one to the office for me and i couldn't resist riding it down the aisle, arriving at the corner at breakneck speed and almost crashing into Peter! Rather than scold me, he grabbed the scooter and was off for a ride. 
He was a rare gift that we don't come across often in our lives. All business, except when a little fun crept in!

Throughout his years at Sears he mentored so many.  A legacy of lessons taught, continue to be passed on today.  Peter's support and encouragement was momumental in shaping so many career paths.  To work for him made working a pleasure and I will always be grateful that I had the opportunity!  To this day I hear his "voice of reason" when making decisions and will always remember his smile.
