Betty was born on Wednesday, February 13, 1935 to James and Lucille Cox in Austin Texas and, after a brief illness, taken from us on Monday, November 6, 2023. She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Henry Linam Jr. Husband, Jack Henry Linam Sr., and all four of her siblings: Bonnie Brode, George Cox, James Cox Jr., and Charlene Hudson. Betty is survived by her son, Charles Berry Linam, daughter in law, Kären Wielunski Linam, grandchildren: Patrick Henry Linam and Erika Kristine Linam, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Betty was raised in East Austin where she attended all 13 years of schooling. Upon graduating high school, her first employment opportunity was with Austin Mortgage and Trust where she remained for 12 years. She made her way to the Travis County Main Accounting Department, and eventually moved to the County Sheriff’s Accounting Department where she remained until her retirement in 1996, just in time for the most exciting time of her life to begin. Betty, affectionately known as "Gabby" - a moniker bestowed by a very young Patrick - relished in her new title and was known by it not only by her grandchildren, but so many others.
Her pride and joy were Patrick and Erika, whose lives she enriched with her presence at every significant event, beginning with their births (present for both), and all birthday celebrations, to high school graduations.
A fervent football fan, Betty's dedication to the sport was as steadfast as her love for her family, vividly illustrated by her insistence on watching the recent UT/Kansas game from her hospital bed. Horns Up!
Along with family and football, Betty’s relationship with Christ was a strong one. She was a member of the Bateman Baptist Church, Red Rock, TX. She spent time with various activities including volunteering many summers for vacation bible school.
Betty's legacy of love, family devotion, and spirited enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures will be treasured by all who knew her. Her warmth and indomitable spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
