John Maurice Wilson died peacefully on July 20, 2018 after a brief illness. John was born in Bleakwood, Texas, on April 6, 1932, to Bill and Olga Wilson, and was a Korean War veteran. After the war, he graduated from Lamar University, and in 1962, moved to Richardson, Texas with his family. He worked for Collins Radio and later retired from Bell Helicopter. John was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Richardson, where he taught Sunday school. He was an avid golfer and cherished the many friendships he made on the golf course. The highlight of his golf career was winning the Father / Son Championship at his club.

John was preceded in death by his wife of forty-seven years, Melba Davis Wilson. He is survived by his three children, Janice Harrison (Kent) of Germantown, Tennessee, Steve Wilson (Carol) of Austin, Texas, and Catherine Wilson of Chicago, Illinois. John was a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren, Amy Wilson Linzmeyer (Andre) of Austin, TX, Katy Wilson Orr (Rick) of Austin, Texas, and Catherine Harrison of Atlanta, GA.; and three great-grandchildren.

In keeping with his wishes, a memorial service will not be held. In memoriam gifts may be made to Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, TX to benefit its children’s golf program, something near and dear to his heart.

Uncle John will be greatly missed by not only his family but by all that knew him. He had a great smile and laugh that made everyone feel welcomed! Jan, Steve and Cathy please know that he is in our thoughts and prayers, as you are too. He is at peace now and you know Grandmama Olga was first to greet him in heaven!!
Much love,
